Seer
Role : Mage
Age : 17
Race : Peryton Wyrd
Originates from : near to Mull
History : Seer was the only child born to a normal
human couple and, needless to say, they were shocked that their child was a wyrd.
But they lived on an isolated farm away from the prejudice and distrust towards
her kind found in most communities, and so they loved her all the same.
Seer was blind from birth, but ever since she can remember
she as had flashes of glimpses into the future. Her parents did not know of this
until one day she predicted that a great storm was coming. Her father just had
time to get the animals in and secure the house when an awful storm suddenly
hit. The hailstones were larger than a man's hand and their herd would surely
have been killed, ad they not been brought safely to the barn.
Other farmers who had lost their livestock wanted to know why
Seer's parents had not lost theirs. Up until now, the fact that Seer was a wyrd
had been kept secret, but with the sudden interest this was going to be a
problem, so her parents made a difficult decision, and chose to send Seer to be
an apprentice to a mage they knew far away of who had no problem with wyrds and
who would also be interested in her prediction abilities.
Away from her parents for the first time, Seer was
lonely and homesick and her mentor was often too busy studying to keep her
company, so he summoned a familiar for her: the magical being took the form of a
firecat and his name was Ecu and he has been with Seer ever since.
The mage was an old and kindly man who was adept in the
command of Elemental magic, with his chosen element being Air and Seer learned
much from him. He also found a special ability within her and taught her to use
it: this ability was part of her prediction power and allowed her to se
everthing as it would be 5 seconds into the future. At first Seer found her new
gift of sight very confusing, but adjusted in the end and has learned to
compensate for the extra 5 seconds.
But the mage was old, and finally died of old age. Not
knowing how to get home, and not wanting to stay in the empty tower, Seer packed
her belongings, picked up her spellbook and left on her mentor's equila, Noda.
She did not really know where she was going, but on the road she met two other
wyrds, Exile and Paladin and joined them in the search for Uth Teleros.
Personality : Seer can be rather vain at times
(she hates her legs as they end in deer hooves, so she always keeps them
covered!) and also a little haughty - she takes pride in her magical abilities
but sometimes believes herself to be a little too good at it and overestimates
what she can do. Still, she is learning and has her friends to keep an eye on
her (when she isn't trying to boss them about!). Compared to the others, Seer
has had quite a privileged upbringing so sometimes she can seem to be rather
fussy at times and she hates getting wet or dirty.
All her life, Seer has never been truely alone. Even after
she left her mage mentor's home, she still had Ecu for company, and she actually
has a fear of loneliness. Ecu knows this, but won't say anything to anyone
because Seer does not want people to know.
Weaknesses : Her weakness is probably the fact that she overestimates her own abilities and this can get her into trouble. Also she has never had to fight and doesn't know how to!
Skills : Seer's abilities lie in elemental
magic and she has learned (is learning!) to master Air spells. She is adept at
mixing spell components and herbs (sometimes with help from Ecu). But she is not
the great sorceress she likes to pretend to be and is still very inexperienced,
often having to check her spell book which she always carries with her. She is a
low-level mage and has to use both incantations and objects through which to
channel her magic, but even then her spells don't always turn out right.
To channel her magic, Seer has progressed beyond needing to
mix components (apart from for very complex magiks) and now uses a large
amethyst set in gold (the one she is holding in her picture!) through which to
focus - it is a purple stone because purple is the symbolic colour of the Air
element (Fire is red, Water blue and Earth green).
Having had access to her mentor's library, Seer also knows
the most about the world (but lacks experience).
Special Abilities : Unlike Exile, Seer's wings actually allow her to fly. Her magical ability to 'see' everything as it will be 5 seconds into the future can be very useful, but she does not see in colour. The only time Seer sees in colour is if she has a proper premonition.
Weapons : Seer's weapon is her magic. The main
spell that she uses in combat is 'Gale' which creates a gale-force blast of wind
that she can direct at an opponent, she knows this spell well and can summon the
elemental power to cast it almost without effort. If she is given the chance to
concentrate then she can summon more potent spells.
If she does get involved in actual fighting, then she can
spread her wings to push people away, and she can try and stab with her sharp
antlers. Normally things won't come to this though, as Ecu is always there to
help.
Relationships:
Exile; Sometimes Seer disagrees with Exile's decisions or ideas, even though she is the leader. Although it is true that, on occasion, Seer does come up with better ideas. In truth Seer sees Exile as like the older sister that she never had.
Paladin; Seer has no quarrel with Paladin and appreciates his sense of honour and his loyalty to them all, although Seer doesn't really think much of fighting.
Hybrid; These two are always at odds with one another. Hybrid teases Seer, and she always says he is rude and uncouth and says that he is a gutter runner (even though it is an expression that actually applies to Ratitkins).
Ecu; Ecu is Seer's familiar and her best friend. Even though he constantly annoys other people and can be rude and foul mouthed, Seer just thinks that he is absolutely adorable and tells the others to stop being mean when they complain to her about him!
Kyei Sham; Kyei is one of the few people Seer will willingly talk to and she sees her as a friend.
