History : Kith grew up as a normal child (but
an orphan) on the streets of Ishter learning to survive as a thief and
pickpocket. When he was old enough he joined the Thieve's Guild there and this
became his family.
Besides simply stealing, thieves would 'hire out' their
services and since Kith was very good at his chosen profession, people often
sought him out to help them 'acquire' certain items from someone who was
otherwise unwilling to part with them. The Guild always took a percentage of his
earnings though, as he was a member. One day a mysterious hooded stranger
introduced himself to Kith in a tavern as Ahnrir and he offered Kith a very
substantial reward should he accept the task of stealing a certain ring from a
sorcerer. Kith had a bad habit of running up large debts; both from gambling and
owings he had to some very unsavory people, and the promise of such a large
amount of gold was not one he was about to turn down.
He stole the ring without too much trouble. It was a black
fire opal set in platinum and carved with strange crawling runes that made his
head hurt to look at them for too long. Not being much of a fan of magic, he
happily exchanged the ring for the gold.
But the sorcerer had put a spell on the ring against anyone
who stole it and. the next morning, Kith woke up to find that he was changing.
The transformation was slow at first; the hue of his skin began to change from
tan to green with blue stripes and it began to take on a leathery texture. A
strip of fur was growing down his back and on his elbows and knees. This all
happened over a few weeks, and Kith shut himself away in his home, not knowing
what to do. But when the shape of his body started to change the transformation
speeded up immensely, almost happening overnight and Kith found himself to be
human no more - he was now a wyrd: a person changed by magic. He knew he could
not stay in the city so he gathered what he could carry and left in the night,
leaving behind his old life, including his name.
Eventually he ran into the other Seekers and, having nowhere
else to go, he joined up with them.
Personality : Hybrid is quick of both wit and
mouth. If anyone is likely to be told to stop blathering or whining, it's him.
He's very streetwise since he has always had to look out for himself and watches
his back (and his friends'!). Having dealt with all sorts of people in his life,
he is the best out of the Seekers for judging characters and is always consulted
by Exile before they decide whether someone can be trusted or not. Before his
transformation, Kith was good looking and has found adjusting to his new shape
difficult, but does not let anyone know this. Instead, he makes light of it and
jokes a lot. But one thing he is glad of is that no one he used to know would
recognise him like this ... which is good because the Thieves Guild is after him
for not paying his commission on the money paid him by Ahnrir, and also he had
not had the chance to repay all those debts he still owes and certain people are
out to get him because of it (good job they won't know who he is now!).
Hybrid is used to the city, and is rather lost in the
wilderness through which the Seekers spend most of their time wandering - he
usually complains a lot about it. But if ever they have to go into a town or
settlement, he leads the way and helps them avoid trouble.
Afte his experience, Hybrid is suspicious of magic items and
anything to do with magic in general. He is also quite
superstitious.
Weaknesses : The muscle structure of his new form now means that, although has greater agility and speed, Hybrid is not as strong as an average human and can be overpowered by an opponent (so long as they can actually get their hands on him!).
Skills : As an expert thief, Hybrid is a great pickpocket and very skilled in legerdermain and is very quick with his hands (although these days he finds his new form to be a hinderance as he finds his huge claws to be too clumsy for his liking). He is also trained to detect and disarm traps and is very good at picking locks and breaking and entering.
Special Abilities : Hybrid's new form gives him incredible agility and he can move very fast, unhindered by rough terrains or steep slopes as he is an excellent climber and his powerful hind legs mean that he can leap great distances. Another ability his new form has is that he now has enhanced night vision.
If Hybrid stays still in the same place for long enough then, rather like a chameleon, his skin changes its pigmentation to help him blend in better.
Weapons : Hybrid's claws are not razor sharp, but they can still do a lot of damage. He can use his tail like a powerful whip, and also to trip opponents up. His best weapon, however, is his head. The mutation has made his skull extremely tough, and his massive horns make him probably the best head-butter there is; he often uses himself as a battering ram, and can knock down brick walls if he gets enough of a run up! Hybrid does not really like to fight hand-to-hand, it's just not in his nature. In a fight he prefers to jump out of his enemy's way and, if possible get higher up than them so that he can throw things at them or, if he can, he'll ram them from behind.
Relationships :
Exile; Hybrid holds a certain respect for Exile and her indomitable will and will follow her decisions, and he does not tease her too much.
Paladin; Hybrid likes to tease Paladin, particularly because the warrior often chides him saying that there is no honour in stealing. Hybrid annoys him no end by calling him 'Buggy' ("Why? Because you've got loads of legs, like a bug!")
Seer; Because they are so different, Seer and Hybrid are always arguing and disagreeing, although one thing they have in common is that neither of them are truely at home in the wilderness.
Ecu; They get on each others nerves a lot and are often told to stop being so childish, although they are friends, really (maybe).
Kyei Sham; Kyei is another person Hybrid enjoys teasing (although often she gives as good as she gets, though!) and he often 'accidentaly' steps on her tail.
