Azrael
Name: Azrael.
Height: 6'5" normally, though variable.
Weight: 195 lbs.
Age: Unknown, even to him.
Race: Azrael claims to be an offspring
of a wyrd and a centaur, but this is greatly questioned.
Originates from: The Lesser Wilds.
Relatives: Mother, father, twin sister Cadimus,
half-brother Laersyn, half-sister Carocatalla.
HISTORY:
Azrael and his twin sister, Cadimus, claim that they come from
the Lesser Wilds, but somewhere in the future. He claims kinship to some of
the Seekers, but he doesn't specify when asked. Growing up in the wilderness,
he is more at home outside of cities and town, and was relatively happy there,
though it was not to last.
When he was thirteen, his parents were murdered by ranwolf and
humans who wanted them gone. Azrael led his twin and half-siblings away, just
barely escaping death himself. Since then, he's mourned the loss of his parents
and swore to make certain that it wouldn't happen again to other wyrds.
At the age of twenty, his group, which included two 'cousins' by
now, travelled to The Desolation, where they were attacked by a mass of demons,
dracoliches and other such 'dark' creatures. One demon, Jamallanachiah, took
a particular interest in Azrael, and somehow managed to partially possess him
during one of several fights between Azrael's group and Jamal now refuses to
leave Azrael. Since then, Azrael has had an unwilling 'passenger' with him,
though he's been living with it for quite some time, apparently.
During one of many visits to various abandoned strongholds and
such, Azrael found two talismans left behind, by his mother, he discovered,
and also stumbled upon a strange machine. When he unintentionally activated
it, he found himself and his group dumped onto present-day Tymaera, where he
was in the Seekers' path. After almost getting in a fight with them, he discovered
that they were searching for the Forgotten City (the name is unknown to him),
and promised to help them look for it.
PERSONALITY:
Azrael is a natural leader, supposedly inherited from his mother.
An indomitable will and natural instinct to survive are part of what kept Jamallanachiah
from being able to fully possess him, while he is easily surprised by anything,
he copes with new and frightening circumstances with extraordinary speed. He
has a strong sense of honor and strong opinions of right and wrong, with the
power to back up his opinions, no one argues with him, except his sister. With
his intuition and an ability to judge character, as the leader, he's had the
most interaction with people, and learned too much too fast, usually help the
group to survive, on their own or with others. Strangely, he also tends to be
rather stubborn about admitting his weaknesses or things he doesn't know, but
he's honest about it, and rather proud of the fact that he's probably the most
eccentric of his group.
Jamallanachiah, the demon who has partially possessed Azrael, is
something of a pest. While he is nowhere near as innately evil or ruthless as
most demons probably are, he has a natural survival instinct and a rather paranoid
disposition, he's been chased out of all but the lowest demonic circles, and
there's still a bounty on his head. Azrael usually doesn't listen to Jamal's
advice, but Jamallanachiah is determined to keep his host alive and well, physically,
mentally and emotionally, so he's learned to stick with Azrael, and even tends
to help him out, though he says it's not intended.
WEAKNESSES:
Azrael isn't among the best when it comes to dexterity, while he
has more dexterity than Exile, it's less that of a normal human. Also, he has
a set of 'arms' to which his wings are attached, and he lacks extensive control
of these muscles, so he normally ends up whapping someone with the wings themselves,
or lightly scratching others with the clawed 'talons' on the wing-arms. Also,
while he has experienced most of the world, he knows nothing about the skills
and concepts of reading and writing, and, frankly, he doesn't care to learn.
SKILLS:
Azrael's skills depend on what he can do and what Jamal can do.
Azrael is a long-time student of magic, with Jamal's help, he's mastered Clerical
and Demonic magics. Very complex magics require such things as potions, pentagrams
and other such things, but most spells can be done almost without effort or
conscious thought. His primary skills are his hunting skills, also a limited
talent for repairing things such as armor and weaponry of any kind, and greater
mental strength than Jamal, which allows him to be mostly in control. Aside
from these, he is especially adept at climbing, especially to high places, and
he possesses the most unusual luck, usually in his favor.
SPECIAL ABILITIES:
Azrael is basically a shape-shifter, able to assume the form of
any creatures he has seen, or that his ancestors have seen, as it seems to run
in his blood. He is very strong and fast, with senses much sharper than any
human's, and his wings allow him to fly and are also razor-sharp. He also has
a tail which is white, furry and has a mass of colorful 'jewels' on the tip
(similar to Twilight Talon), it's twice as long as he is tall, but is also prehensile,
so it's used as a substitute hand. It's also possible that he might possess
some level of psychic powers, he is always able to 'know what you're thinking',
and he has demonstrated a limited telekinetic ability. In fact, it's been thought
that Jamallanachiah's possession of him is bringing out latent powers, though
this remains to be seen. With access to Jamal's powers, he can conjur demon
fire, levitate, and view past, present or future, among other things.
WEAPONS:
Azrael has a talisman around his neck, which resembles Exile's
armband, but bigger, with colorful designs. He also has a broadsword which is
enchanted thanks to Jamal's presence, he's lived long enough to learn how to
use it, which can be used for physical combat, magical fights, and even breaking
spells, though it's magical nature depends on whatever magic Azrael and Jamallanachiah
know. It seems Azrael's primary weapon is knowledge of his powers, especially
in their uses. Otherwise, Azrael himself is his own weapon.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
It's not really known what Azrael really looks like, even to himself,
but he has a form or two that he mostly assumes.
In the form in which he meets the Seekers, Azrael is a bipedal
felinoid with generally cat-like features. He has white fur with tan stripes
here and there, his hair is black with tan stripes to his waist, and he has
retractable claws on his hands and feet. Also, he is very agile in this form,
his manual dexterity is almost equal to a human's, and his telepathic ability
is heightened considerably. He has his tail unchanged, though this might just
be a personal preference, as are his wings, and his eyes are a brightly glowing
color, the left eye is green and the right eye is blue, with no pupils or whites,
regardless of whatever form he's in.
In his second-most used form, Azrael can basically be called a
cat-centaur, though his head is a cat's head and he is covered entirely in long
fur. In this form, he is rather larger than he would normally be, his tail is
longer but otherwise unchanged, and he has the full manual dexterity of a human.
He can jump higher and further in this form, and Azrael is probably also faster.
His fur is a purplish color with a tan stripe from the base of his neck to the
tip of his tail, which looks like the teeth of a zipper, hence the disliked
nickname given to him by a few of the Seekers. His hair is pure white save for
a tan stripe at the temples, which he wears tied back into a ponytail (think
Adrian Paul as Duncan MacLeod from 'Highlander: The Series').
RELATIONSHIPS:
EXILE: Azrael has a special respect for her, she doesn't
know why, but she'll willing to trust him if she must. Azrael knows of his alleged
kinship to her, but he never specifies, not that she's ever asked about it.
PALADIN: Rather likes him, Azrael knows that Paladin loves
Exile, but he's not going to interfer. Azrael seems almost slightly familiar
to the bantari centaur, though he doesn't know why, Paladin is well-known in
Azrael's secretive history, he says Paladin was linked to Exile in some way
in his past, but who believes him?
HYBRID: Azrael claims that two of his allies are related
to Hybrid in some way, and Hybrid rather likes Azrael, though he doesn't seem
to know that Jamallanachiah is possessing the stranger. Also, Hybrid was among
the first to see Azrael in his second form, and annoys him to no end by calling
him 'Zipper' in his cat-centaur form, but then, Azrael and Jamal call him a
gotkaz (in Jamal's tongue, it's a hilarious, though derogatory, term).
SEER: To Az, Seer's a total mystery, as there is little
or nothing known to his group in the future. He thinks she's basically something
of a brat, and doesn't tolerate her too well. Seer gets pretty upset when he
doesn't listen to a word she says, so naturally, the two don't get along at
all!
KYEI: Azrael would like to get to know her, but, as with
all others, he's pushed away, though, when he's in a funny mood, he'll shape-shift
into her and act just like her. Kyei finds Azrael very unusual, but likes him,
and Jamal has something of a crush on her.
CAMILLE: Azrael likes the girl, he knows what she is, but
Jamal is especially interested in her, as Jamallanachiah is a demon, and Camille
is actually an angel. Camille has the same interest in Jamal, since he doesn't
seem evil, and actually couldn't be evil if he tried.
ELIZA: Eliza agrees with Hybrid when they call Azrael 'Zipper',
but frankly, Azrael isn't bothered by it. He rather thinks of Eliza as a cute
little kid who can be annoying, but had her helpful traits, though it's not
the best of days when they drive each other nuts to no end.
MEDUSA: Azrael has respect for her, and certainly some sympathy
and wish to help her out. Medusa, along with Hybrid, annoy him with the use
of 'Zipper' and, sometimes, even 'Horsy' when he resembles Paladin, but Jamal
has ideas of getting even, which Azrael is always more than happy to go along
with.
CADIMUS: Azrael's twin sister, this is probably the one
person he can't ever hide anything from. Cadimus is strange herself, with more
things in common with her twin than the Seekers realize, and she watches out
for him all the time, even when he tells her not to.
