Dragon of the Red River

Careful, it's easy to get lost in those crimson depths...
mixedmedia dracoliche Dragon of the Red River I just love the way the interaction between the reds and the blacks, and with a modelling paste textured base layer, there were lots of ways for them to interact =) The camera didn't quite pick it up but parts of the skeleton are silvered too. Compared with the practice piece (also in this folder), you can see I waited this time for the black relief paste to dry so the lines are cleaner... which provides less distraction from the complex reds. 20 x 20cm wooden panel. red river00 Indirect light red river01 In sunlight mm red skeleton dragon Dragon of the Red River - test piece Test piece which turned as a pleasant surprise. I hadn't tried Pebeo's 'modelling paste' before so I put a bit on the this tile along with acrylic gloss gel. Then used relief outliner to 'draw' (insofar as squidging stuff out of a tube can be so termed) the skeletal dragon. Then I got impatient and tried applying transfer foil. The black relief paste hadn't dried quite well enough at this point so the foil attached itself to the paste in interesting ways. Next up I added red glass paint. Again the liner had still not properly dried and thus the red interacted to produce the pleasing smokey effect. The gold on the surface is water-based metallic paint and since oil and water are immiscible it sat nicely on top, refusing to spread out in the wispy manner of the black into the red, which I thought made for a nice contrast. 15 x 15 cm ceramic tile. Not for sale. This one's alllll mine.
